Established since 1999, Bodegas Bhilar is a boutique winery located in Elvillar, Rioja Alavesa, run by husband and wife team, David Sampedro and Melanie Hickman.

Rioja Alavesa is the smallest of the three wine-producing sub-regions in Rioja, Spain. It is the northernmost of the three sub-regions, bordering Rioja Alta to the southwest and Rioja Oriental (formerly Rioja Baja) to the southeast. Rioja Alavesa is most similar to Rioja Alta in terms of climate, soil and style, and together they are considered to produce the best wines of the region.

HARVEST & PRODUCTION

From a plot located in Elvillar at 450 meters altitude. The first production of this wine is made in 2014, from the vineyards of the plot planted approximately 35 years ago. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks and aging in 500L barrels.

TASTING NOTES

The perfume of the Garnacha variety is very well marked, subtly balsamic with herbaceous aromas. It is tasty and with a serious palate, with very well integrated tannins and a touch of the terroir. It has an expressive Garnacha nose with berry fruit and a floral touch
